sports bar in West Phoenix

Calling All Diamondbacks Fans

Last Updated on

If you aren’t going to see a sporting event live, we think a sports bar is the next best place to cheer for your team. We may be a little partial, being that we’re a sports bar in West Phoenix, but Long Wong’s has mouth-watering, famous wings and thirst quenching beer that are sure to take your viewing pleasure up a notch! And since we’re loyal Arizona residents, that makes our team this baseball season the Arizona Diamondbacks.

An Impressive 2017 Campaign

After a disappointing 2016 record (69-93; W-L), the Diamondbacks surprised us all by reversing that record to 93-69 W-L in their 2017 regular season. This impressive turnaround won them a place in the 2017 postseason National League wild card game, where they held off the Colorado Rockies. Their thrilling 11-8 win included four triples for the Diamondbacks; the most triples hit in a game since the 1903 world series! Though they went on to lose to the LA Dodgers in the subsequent games of the NL Division Series, they were hailed for going much further than expected.

New Hopes for 2018

It’s still early in the 2018 regular season, but as of early May (about a quarter of the way into the season), the Diamondbacks are leading in the National League West. Looking to build upon the momentum from last year, here are a few things that might set Arizona apart this season:

  • One of D-Backs’ strengths is their pitching bullpen; not just the starting rotation, but also the back-end of the bullpen as well.
  • This season we’re keeping our eye on newcomer Alex Avila. While his record last year didn’t quite reach the former glory of his 2011 season, he re-established himself as a threat on Detroit’s 2017 roster. If he can keep his batting average up, we might be in business and see some serious action from him.
  • With the addition of Jarrod Dyson, who can play all three outfield positions, Arizona’s lineup has gotten some much-needed versatility.

With their conquerors from last year—the Dodgers—sitting near the bottom of the NL West, the Diamondbacks are already beating predictions of a 2nd-place regular season league finish. Be sure to check out their schedule so you don’t miss any of the action on the big screens at your local sports bar in West Phoenix, Long Wongs AZ Famous Wings!
